Who can take the Colorado Writing Project summer courses?

• CWP is open to anyone interested in literacy and writing. Kindergarten teachers have studied with college instructors. Science teachers have joined English, history, physical education and math teachers to learn more about writing. Principals and other administrators are among the growing list of CWP fellows.

How many hours do the workshops and seminars meet?

• CWP I, II, and III workshops meet for nine days. Classes begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 4:00 p.m.
• Seminars meet for two consecutive days. Classes usually begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 4:00 p.m., although times may be adjusted to accommodate scheduling of other activities at some sites.
• The Fall Follow-up workshops meet one day a month, September through December.

How much does each CWP course cost?

• The Workshop registration for CWP I, II, or III is $600 + about $55 for course texts. For an additional charge of approximately $75 per credit hour, participants can receive graduate credit through the University of Colorado-Denver (4 semester hours for CWP I, II, or III; 1 hour for Fall follow-up workshops).
• Fees for Seminars are $200.
• Cost of Follow-up Workshops and Custom-designed Professional Development are negotiated with school districts on a case-by-case basis.
  • Many districts pay for part or all of workshop and seminar fees with professional development and grant funds, so check with your district about scholarship assistance.
• Fees for Young Writers Camps are $200 per camper.

Does CWP count towards licensure renewal?

• Yes. Teachers who hold a valid Colorado teaching license may use professional development activities like CWP when applying for license renewal.

Can I receive college credit for Workshop courses?

• Yes. For an additional fee, participants are offered the option of graduate credit through the University of Colorado-Denver. CWP I, II, or III each qualify for 4 semester hours of credit, and the Fall Follow-up Workshops for 1 hour.

Does the UCD graduate credit count towards advancement on district salary schedules?

• Yes, but be sure to check with your school district. Every school district in Colorado has its own negotiated salary agreement, which specifies local requirements for advancement on salary scales.
