“I received a [Ruthie’s Fund] scholarship from the Jefferson Foundation last summer to take the Colorado Writing Project II. It has been invaluable as I strive to become a better writing teacher. The two weeks it takes to complete the class will change your life and change the way you teach writing. I am grateful that the Jefferson Foundation is available to teachers. Teachers need to take advantage of it! I’m glad I did!” — Sherry Ramsey Schulz
Ruthie’s Fund Scholarships
What is Ruthie’s Fund?
Ruthie’s Fund for Teachers offers small grants that provide professional development for Jefferson County R-1 schools (Colorado) educators so that they have the chance to become better at what they do. The fund was established by her family in 2007 to honor Ruth Raife McKellar, a Jeffco kindergarten teacher, and to emulate her lifelong generosity and respect for teachers. The fund supports professional development that will make a difference for children. The fund is administered by the Jeffco Schools Foundation.
About the Scholarship:
The Ruthie’s Fund scholarship amount for 2015 is $300 to be applied towards tuition for a Colorado Writing Project (CWP) summer workshop. This covers half of current tuition costs and does not apply towards other course expenses (books, optional graduate credit). Teachers are responsible for remaining tuition and course expenses. Multiple scholarships may be awarded annually, depending on the needs of applicants and availability of funds.
Who may apply:
Full-time K-12 teacher employees of Jefferson County R-1 public schools. Teachers should have as one of their current anticipated assignments the teaching of writing.
Scholarship recipients should sign up for any one of the open Colorado Writing Project summer workshops. (See Schedule/Registration for list of classes.)
Application Deadline: June 1, 2015
